Preservice Music                                  “Above All”

~ Lenny LeBlanc and Paul Baloche ~

1.   Above all powers, above all kings, above all nature and all created things.

Above all wisdom and all the ways of man, You were here before the world began.

2.   Above all kingdoms, above all thrones, above all wonders the world has ever known.

Above all wealth and treasures of the earth, there's no way to measure what You're worth.

Chorus:

Crucified, laid behind a stone, You lived to die, rejected and alone.   Like a rose trampled on the ground, You took the fall and thought of me,   Above all.

                                                    “There Is None Like You”

                                                                                 ~ Lenny LeBlanc ~

There is none like You,  No one else can touch my heart like You do;

I could search for all eternity long  And find there is none like You.

Chorus:

Your mercy flows like a river wide and healing comes from Your hands;

Suffering children are safe in Your arms, there is none like You.

                                                                 “Breathe”

                                                                                  ~ Marie Barnett ~

1.   This is the air I breathe,   This is the air I breathe,   Your holy presence living in me.

2.   This is my daily bread,   This is my daily bread,   Your very word spoken to me.

Chorus:

And I, I'm desperate for You.   And I, I'm lost without You.

3.   You are the air I breathe,   You are the air I breathe,   Your holy presence living in me.

4.   You are my daily bread,   You are my daily bread,   Your very word spoken to me.   (Chorus)

Ending:

I’m lost without you.  I’m lost without you.

This is the air I breathe.  This is the air I breathe.

“Ancient Words”

                                                                                 ~ Lynn DeShazo ~

1.   Holy words long preserved   For our walk in this world;

They resound with God's own heart.   O, let the ancient words impart.

2.   Words of life, words of hope,   Give us strength, help us cope.

In this world where'er we roam,   Ancient words will guide us home.

Chorus:

Ancient words, ever true,   Changing me and changing you;

We have come with open hearts,   O, let the ancient words impart.

3.   Holy words of our faith   Handed down to this age,

Came to us through sacrifice.   O, heed the faithful words of Christ.

4.   Holy words long preserved   For our walk in this world,

They resound with God's own heart.   O, let the ancient words impart.   (Chorus)

                                                       — GATHERING —

Invocation

(Please stand and face the back of the sanctuary and the processional cross.)

P:   In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C:   Amen.

P:   The Lord in His goodness has sent us a shepherd.

C:   (with a shout)  Blessed be the name of the Lord!

P:   It was He who gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

                                                                                                                 (Ephesians 4:11-13)

C:   Blessed be the name of the Lord!

(Please turn to face the cross as it is carried to the front of the sanctuary.)

Processional Song           “In Christ Alone” / “The Solid Rock”

~ Keith Getty and Stuart Townend ~

                                                                   ~ Mote/Bradbury (The Solid Rock)~

1.   In Christ alone, my hope is found.  He is my light, my strength, my song.

This Cornerstone, this Solid Ground,  Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,  When fears are stilled, when strivings cease.

My Comforter, my All in all, here in the love of Christ I stand.

2.   In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,  Fullness of God in helpless Babe.

This gift of love and righteousness,  Scorned by the ones He came to save.

'Til on that cross, as Jesus died,  The wrath of God was satisfied,

For every sin on Him was laid,  Here in the death of Christ I live.

3.   There in the ground His body lay,  Light of the world by darkness slain.

Then bursting forth in glorious day,  Up from the grave He rose again.

And as He stands in victory,  Sin's curse has lost its grip on me.

For I am His and He is mine,  Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Bridge:

On Christ, the Solid Rock, I stand;  All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand.   (Repeat)

4.   No guilt in life, no fear in death,  This is the power of Christ in me.

From life's first cry to final breath,  Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man  Can ever pluck me from His hand.

'Til He returns or calls me home,  Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

                                             — SERVICE of the WORD —

Prayer

P:   Almighty God, grant your Holy Spirit and the wisdom which comes down from heaven, that your Word may not be bound but may have free course and be preached to the joy and edifying of Christ’s holy people.  Grant your blessing, O Lord, upon this church and the pastor whom you have called to serve here, that in unwavering faith, through words and actions, we may proclaim the glory of your name in all the world and stand firm to the end.  In the strong name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior and King.

C:   Amen!

(Please be seated.)

Reading from the Old Testament                                                             Isaiah 52:7-10

7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion , “Your God reigns!” 8 Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy.  When the Lord returns to Zion , they will see it with their own eyes. 9 Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem , for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem . 10 The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

L:   Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.

C:   (with a shout)  His love endures forever!

Reading from the New Testament                                                2 Corinthians 5:14-21

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.  Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.  And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf:  Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

L:   This is the Word of the Lord.

C:   (with a shout)  Thanks be to God!

Reading from the Gospel                                                                          John 21:15-17

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

L:   This is the Gospel of our Lord.

C:  (with a shout)  Praise to you, O Christ!

Sermon                                                                                  “Don’t Frame This – Live It!”

                                                                                                                             John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This verse is one of the most famous in the Bible.  At first it seems to be just a summary of the Christmas Story – good enough to frame and hang on a wall.  Watch Out!  Don’t miss the secret.  This verse links us directly to the meaning of Pastor Aaron’s installation and to the power for effective life together in the church.
